Associate an operator with work centers

Before an operator can see related shop floor jobs, their Versa user account must be linked to the matching human Team Member / Resource. Open the user or resource setup, choose the related worker/resource, and save.

Use the Work Centers field on a resource when an operator normally works in one or more production areas.

1. Open Production.
2. Under Manufacturing Resources, select View All Resources.
3. Edit the resource.
4. Find Shop Floor Job Access.
5. Under Work Centers, choose one or more work centers.
6. Select Update.

Capacity allocations are maintained from the Work Center screen. The Work Centers field on the resource controls shop-floor job visibility.

Assign a Bill of Material operation sequence to a work center

Assigning an operation sequence to a work center creates the default routing for that product. For example, step 10 Cut might route to Cutting, and step 20 Assembly might route to Assembly Cell 1.

1. Open the product's Bill of Material.
2. Find the operation sequence you want to route.
3. Select Assign Work Center.
4. Choose the work center from the list.
5. Select Assign.

After assignment, the operation shows Assigned to Work Center followed by the work center name. You can remove the assignment if the routing changes.

Assign a resource, operation, and work center on a work order or production build

Use Resource Tracking when you want to assign the actual person, machine, operation, or work center for a specific job.

1. Open Production.
2. Open the work order or production build.
3. Find Resource Tracking.
4. Select Add Resource.
5. Choose the Resource and Project Role.
6. Enter the From date and, when needed, the To date.
7. Enter the Default Duration in hours.
8. Choose an Operation, or leave it as Whole job.
9. Choose a Work Center, or leave it as No work center.
10. Select Add.

If a job assignment has an operation but no work center, Versa can use the operation's Bill of Material routing when available. If you choose a work center on the job assignment, that job-specific value is used for that assignment.

How work centers affect the Shop Floor Terminal

When Shop Floor Job Visibility is set to Related jobs only, a job can appear in an operator's My Jobs list because of a work-center relationship.

A job may be related to the operator when:

• the operator is directly assigned to the whole job;
• the operator is assigned to a specific operation;
• a machine the operator uses is assigned to the operation;
• the operation is assigned or routed to one of the operator's work centers.

The Shop Floor Terminal still shows the full operation sequence for context. Operations not related to the operator show Not assigned to you and do not offer timer or material actions.

Review work center load and activity

Work centers can be used in manufacturing views and reports:

• Work Center Load shows planned load and available capacity by work center, separated into human and machine capacity.
• Manufacturing Calendar can be filtered by work center.
• Timesheets can be filtered by work center.
• Work Center Utilization reports actual hours by work center and resource type.
• Work Center Routing Overview lists Bill of Material operation routing by work center.

When to use work centers

Work centers are useful when your company wants to answer questions such as:

• Which jobs are planned for Assembly this week?
• Which operators should see jobs for Packing?
• Which operations are routed to CNC?
• How much human or machine capacity is available in a production area?
• Which work center is overloaded?

If your company only needs simple person-to-job assignments, you can start without work centers and add them later.

Troubleshooting

A work center is missing from a list

Confirm you are signed in to the correct entity. Work centers belong to one entity and do not automatically appear in another entity.

A resource is missing from Assign Workers

Confirm the resource is active and belongs to the selected entity. If the resource represents a machine, confirm it is set up as a machine resource.

The capacity value is rejected

A resource's total allocation across work centers cannot exceed its daily capacity. Lower the allocation in one work center before increasing it in another.

Assign Work Center is missing from a Bill of Material operation

Confirm work centers exist in the selected entity and that you have access to edit the Bill of Material.

The Operation field is missing on Add Resource

The assembly does not have operation sequences defined. Add operation sequences to the Bill of Material, then reopen Add Resource.

An operator does not see a routed job in My Jobs

Confirm Shop Floor Job Visibility is set to Related jobs only, the operator's user account is linked to the correct resource, and the resource belongs to the work center used by the operation. A Firm Admin can switch to All Jobs to confirm the job is open.

Tips

• Start with a small number of work centers that match how supervisors already talk about the shop floor.
• Use short, recognizable names such as Cut, Assembly, Paint, Seal, Pack, or CNC.
• Assign operation sequences to work centers first when you want consistent routing from the Bill of Material.
• Use job-specific Resource Tracking when a one-off job needs a different resource or work center.
• Keep capacity allocations realistic. A shared worker or movable machine can be split across work centers.
• If your company is not ready for work centers, use direct operation assignments and add work centers later.
