Building Products from BOM using Production Build.

1. Click on the New Build hyperlink on the main navigation bar. (Under Products or Manufacturing menu)
2. Select the BOM to build from the Assembly list.
3. Find the line of Part you wish to build and enter the number of batches to be built in the Batches field.
4. Select the build date from the Year/Month/Day drop-down lists. Enter the internal reference number and the description of the build.
5. Click on the Create

Once the build is created, in the section Commit More Materials, the system will list all the parts that are needed for the build , the quantities needed and quantities available for each of the parts. If any part is short, you can click on the Zero Short Field to not use the part in the build.  You can override the system calculated quantities needed for the build in the Now column by entering a different amount. Click on the Post button to allocate the quantity in the build. This means you have used the allocated quantities in the build. The total cost of all parts used so far gets posted to a WIP (work in progress) account created for the build.

If your BOM has sequences defined, you would need to start the sequence in order to commit any material item in this sequence. The sequence must be marked as completed before you can close the build.

 

Committing Resources

Labour or machine resource can be added to the build if you want to tracking spending by resources.

Usage of labour or machine resource is committed to the build via a time entry record. You would record the time spent by the resources for this build by clicking on Add Time Entry next to each resource . The cost of each unit of resource spent (in hours) is defined then the resource is created. But you can override the cost of resource for a build only by clicking on the Add Rate link next to each resource. Read more about Resources here.

 

Close a build

To close a build, you would enter a number Qty Produced field. This number is the amount of inventory generated after this build is complete. Click on the Close button to close the build. The total cost of building is then transfer from the WIP account to the inventory asset account for the part. if the BOM product is lotted or serialized, you would need to provide the lot number of serial number.

It is important to note that existing materials inventory must be in the same unit-of-measure as the materials used on the BOM. For instance, if you have 5 litres of adhesive in stock, and the BOM calls for 1 milliliter of adhesive, then a shortage will be raised. You will need to convert 1 litre of adhesive to 1000 milliliters, as this is the unit-of-measure used on the BOM.
