Products
You can create a new product as follows:
- If you are not already on the User Screen, click on the 'User Screen' hyperlink on the top navigation bar.
- Go to Products / Products / New
- Enter the desired name of your new product.
- If the new product will be an inventoried product, then select its related inventory item. Otherwise, leave the Related Inventory Item field set to 'No Selection'.
- Select a category for your new product.
- If desired, include a comment for the new product. This comment will always appear on any Purchase Order or Sales Order for this product.
- Click on the 'Create New Product' button. Done.
Note that in step 4 above, you are given the choice of creating an inventoried or a non-inventoried product. There are many instances when you will not want to keep products as inventory. These might include instances where:

- The product is unique and can not be inventoried (e.g. a report, a work of art, a physical model)
- The product is purchased for use within your firm and expensed within the current period. (e.g. paper)
- The product is purchased and the cost is capitalized (i.e. kept on your balance sheet as a depreciable asset)
For example, if you are buying computers for use within your firm, you would want to create a non-inventoried product called, say, 'Desktop Computer' and assign it to a category with the 'For Purchase' flag set. This would allow you to order computers and then either expense them within the period or, more likely, capitalize their cost. See the section on Purchasing Capitalized Items for details on how have their associated costs posted to your balance sheet.
Services
You can create a new service as follows:
- If you are not already on the User Screen, click on the 'User Screen' hyperlink on the top navigation bar.
- Go to Products / Services / New
- Enter the desired name of your new service.
- Select the desired category from the drop-down list.
- Enter a comment for the service, if desired. This comment will be displayed on any Purchase Order or Sales Order for this service.
- Click the Create New Service button. Done.
Updating Products and Services
You can change the information relating to products and services at any time. Such changes will have no effect on previously posted accounting transactions.
You can change a Product or Service as follows:
- If you are not already on the User Screen, click on the 'User Screen' hyperlink on the top navigation bar.
- Click on the 'P&S Management' hyperlink on the side navigation bar under the heading 'Products and Services Traded'.
- Click on either the 'List / Update Products' or the 'List / Update Services' hyperlink.
- Update the information in one product or service and then click the 'Update' button at the right of the line. Done.
Deleting Products and Services
You can delete a product or service as long as it is not referenced by any Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Shipment Receipts or Order Shipments.To delete a product or service do as follows:
- If you are not already on the User Screen, click on the 'User Screen' hyperlink on the top navigation bar.
- Go to either Products / Products / List or Products / Services / List
- For the doomed product or service, click the Delete button at the right of the line. Done
