Use shipping controls to make the handoff from allocated stock to a packed, traceable customer shipment more consistent. They can require or assist with parts of that handoff, but the team must still pick the correct goods, pack them, confirm the carrier choice, and record what actually left.
Choose the controls for the shipping shift
An administrator sets these options in Settings → Setup → Feature Settings → Outgoing SO Shipments. Ship Only Allocated Orders limits the order items offered for shipping to items with allocated quantity. Do not read the label as a promise that every line on a whole order is fully allocated; review the quantities on the specific shipment. With Warehouse Management, Force Selection of Bin Locations On Shipment Page requires a bin choice when stock is tracked in bins. Require Tracking No On Shipment Page requires a tracking number for shipment posting.
Auto Select and Generate Shipping Label Based on Shipping Preferences applies when the order has a shipping preference and carrier rates are fetched. It can select the matching service and generate a label. The shipper must still check the address, package, service, and label before giving the parcel to the carrier.
Ship an order
- Open the order and check the customer, ship-to address, promised items, and available allocation. Resolve unallocated or short lines with sales or the warehouse; decide whether a partial shipment is acceptable.
- Pick from the physical location and compare product and quantity with the order or pick list. When the bin requirement applies, record the bin from which stock was actually taken.
- Pack and measure the shipment as required by the carrier. Review the order's shipping preference, obtain rates, and inspect any generated label. Correct the service or address before posting if it does not match the customer's instructions.
- Enter the tracking number when required, then post only the quantity that is physically ready to leave. Hand the labeled package to the carrier and retain its tracking details.
- Review the posted shipment, remaining order quantity, and any resulting invoice or customer notice. Tell customer service about partial shipments, substituted service, or a delayed balance.
Check the result
The posted shipment records what left, from the correct stock location when bins are used, with a carrier and tracking reference appropriate to the package. If an item is missing from the shipping list, inspect its allocation rather than assuming the entire order is ineligible. If label generation fails, resolve the carrier or preference issue before dispatching the physical parcel.
