A pick list tells the warehouse which inventoried goods to collect for a sales order. It connects the order and allocation decision with the physical pick, packing, and shipment. An allocated quantity or printed list is a plan; the picker still needs to find and confirm the goods before anyone promises they are ready to ship.
Before the warehouse starts
A Firm Admin can enable the workflow for the selected entity under Setup > Feature Settings > Pick List: check Enable Pick Pack Ship Workflow, then select Save Setting. This makes the pick-list actions available. If you do not see them, ask your administrator to check this setting and your access.
The person creating a list from the order needs access to that order; the person working on the list needs Shipping access. Sales or fulfillment should confirm the customer, delivery date, ship-from facility, and quantities released to the warehouse. Resolve a changed promise, an unavailable product, or an approved substitute before asking someone to pick it.
Check whether an open pick list already covers the same order lines. Service and other non-inventoried lines are not physical stock to pick. When several facilities contribute to an order, each warehouse should know which quantities it is responsible for.
Create and check the list
- For one order, open the sales order and choose Create Pick List. If an existing list can be updated, choose Update Pick List. To create lists from allocated open orders, open Logistics > Open S/O's and choose Create Pick List from Allocation. This action can generate more than one list from eligible allocated orders in the selected entity; if no allocated order qualifies, no list is created.
- Open the resulting list, or find generated lists under Logistics > Pick List. Confirm each list's number, related order, customer, and Pick From facility. Compare Ordered Qty, Qty Alloc, and To Pick for each line.
- If a line or quantity is unexpected, stop and resolve the order or allocation with sales and inventory. Do not use a pick-list status to hide a shortage.
- Give the picker the list or use the on-screen workflow. The picker locates the actual product and quantity in the specified facility. For lot, serial, or Bin Location tracking, identify the particular stock being taken.
Record the physical pick
- For each line, enter the quantity actually found and choose Picked, or use your supported pick-list scanning process. Complete any lot, serial number, or Bin Location prompt. Auto Pick may be offered for eligible lists without lot- or serial-controlled items; staff still need to check the physical goods.
- Compare Picked with To Pick. A partial pick is not a complete order. Put damaged or incorrect goods aside, record the exception, and ask the warehouse lead and sales team whether to replenish, substitute with approval, or ship a partial quantity.
- Correct a mistaken pick with the list's correction controls. Recheck the quantity and Bin Location result afterward. Merely changing a status does not correct a recorded quantity.
- When the recorded quantities match the goods in hand, pass the goods and pick-list number to packing. Use Start Packing when your company records that stage. If your setup skips packing, follow the handoff shown on the list.
Hand off to shipping
Packing checks the goods against the order, prepares packages and labels, and records what is packed. The team then uses Ready to Ship and Ship Picklist when those controls appear. Shipping confirms the carrier or customer pickup and posts the shipment through its normal process. The pick list should still show any short lines for follow-up with the customer. Picking alone does not post a shipment, invoice the order, or prove the carrier received it.
