A packer checks the goods picked for a customer order, records what goes into each parcel, and hands the packages to shipping. Packing creates shipment-package records, but it does not post the shipment or confirm carrier pickup.
Before you start
- Access: Use the correct entity and a user with Shipping access. The entity needs Enable Pick Pack Ship Workflow under Setup > Feature Settings > Pick List. If Skip Packing on Picklist is on, the separate packing controls are hidden.
- Where: Open the pick list from Logistics > Pick List after the picker has recorded the actual pick.
Compare the physical goods with every pick-list line, including quantities and lot or serial details where applicable. Resolve damage or a missing item with the picker and warehouse lead. If less will ship than promised, tell sales or customer service so they can agree on the customer handoff.
Pack the picked goods
- Confirm every pick-list line is fully picked. Start Packing appears only then. For a short line, use the minus icon in Qty Alloc (Decrease to pick quantity by one) to reduce its allocated quantity, or use the trash icon to remove it when appropriate.
- Select Start Packing.
- For each line, compare To Pack, Picked, and Packed with the goods placed in the parcel. Record the actual packed quantity with Packed, or use scanning where configured.
- When the parcel is complete, select Packed a Package. Versa creates an unposted shipment package for the packed quantities. Review the package record against the physical contents before starting another parcel.
- Repeat until every line is packed. Then select Ready to Ship. This also creates a package for any packed quantity that was not yet included in a package. Check the resulting package list so a missed Packed a Package does not become an unexpected extra parcel.
- Confirm the pick list says Ready to Ship and its packages match the parcels handed to shipping.
After Ready to Ship, the shipping team can select the carrier service, obtain or print a label, and check dimensions, destination, and tracking where those controls are configured. Select Ship Picklist to review and post what actually leaves. Give customer service the tracking or pickup information, and tell sales about any remaining order quantity. Neither a package record nor Ready to Ship means the carrier has received the goods.
When Skip Packing on Picklist is enabled, Versa marks every line packed as soon as the last line is picked, creates the package, and sets the list to Ready to Ship. Start Packing and the Packed column are hidden. Continue with Ship Picklist.
For the earlier picking steps, see How to create a pick list and record what was picked. For shipment posting, see How to Ship a Sales Order.
If you don't see what you expect
- Start Packing is missing: Check that every line is fully picked and that Skip Packing on Picklist is off.
- Ready to Ship is unavailable: Check every line's picked and packed quantity. Resolve an incomplete line before trying again.
- A packed quantity is wrong: Use the minus icon Reduce Picked/Packed Qty by one, then recount. For a mistaken package, use Remove Shipment Package on its card. Auto Pack is available only for lists without lot- or serial-tracked items.
- No new package appears: If there is no unpacked quantity, Versa says Cannot find unpacked quantity. No package created. Review the existing packages before trying again.
Package preparation is separate from shipment posting. Confirm the physical handoff before recording that the order has shipped.
